Research on the Use of Silkworm Pupae as Livestock Feed Published in Scientific Reports
We are pleased to announce that a scientific article co-authored by our Chief Technology Officer, Masahiro Taniguchi, has been published in Scientific Reports, a peer-reviewed international journal issued by Nature Publishing Group in the United Kingdom.
This study evaluated the potential of silkworm pupae—reared either on natural mulberry leaves or on artificial diets—as a sustainable protein substitute for soybean meal in cattle feed. Through in vitro analysis, the research examined nutritional value, rumen fermentation characteristics, and the impact on methane emissions, a major greenhouse gas. The results demonstrated that feeds incorporating silkworm pupae led to a reduction in methane emissions from ruminants.
