Core TechnologyOriginal technologies of KAICOKyushu University and Silkworms

The world’s largest silkworm bioresource library

For over 100 years, Kyushu University has been researching silkworms and possesses the world’s largest collection of over 800 strains. Of these, around 450 are regional strains, many of which have proven quality as hosts for producing functional proteins.

KAICO utilizes silkworm strains that Kyushu University has been breeding for over 100 years for genetic research purposes. Among them are strains that are highly susceptible to baculovirus infection, which enables high expression and high production of proteins.

Through the combination of Kyushu University’s silkworms and KAICO’s gene/genome expertise, we produce unique, one-of-a-kind proteins.
